The AD 2000 Code describes in detail all basic safety requirements which have to be fulfilled in order to comply with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). It naturally fulfils the conformity requirements ot the PED, but the high quality standard of the AD Code continues beyond this. Unlike other european standards which regulate the quality of pressure equipment, the German standard is very popular because of its consistent and logical form providing safety requirements for:
AD 2000 Code is compiled by the Pressure Vessel Working Group (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Druckbehälter - AD). Based on a long-term agreement it consists of seven associations:

» German Statutory Accident Insurance (DGUV), German Chemical Industry Association VCI
» German Machinery and Plant Manufacturers' Association VDMA
» German Iron and Steel Institute of the former Association of German Steel Manufacturers VDEh
» European Technical Association for Power and Heat Generation VGB PowerTech e. V.
» and the TÜV Association TÜV-Verband
The AD Associations represent a balanced combination of material and pressure vessel manufactures, operators, employers’ liability insurance associations and technical inspectorates. From their knowledge of the questions which arise during the construction and operation of pressure vessels, piping and accessories the AD Associations draw up the technical regulations for pressure vessels, piping as well as their accessories, bringing them constantly in line with the state of the art. In individual cases the AD consults experts from other associations or scientific representatives to solve special problems.
In addition to its focus on quality, safety and conformity with the basic requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) it is, above all, the clarity of the test results, which makes the AD 2000 Code so valuable to the user.
